What is cellulite and can it be reduced?

We all know the word cellulite. In fact, around 90% of us have some! When it comes to beauty, we tend to look straight for ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite or get rid of it altogether. But what actually is cellulite? And do beauty treatments and products offer a real solution?

What is cellulite?

Let’s keep things simple. Cellulite is a harmless skin condition. But many don’t like the look of it. But what causes it to happen?

Underneath the skin, fibrous cords are connected to both the muscle and the underside of the skin – with fat lining between. This fat can group into uneven pockets between the muscle and the skin, which pulls on and weakens these cords and presents on the surface of the skin as dimples.

One of the simplest and yet still super-effective solutions to help decrease cellulite is to drink more water. Drinking at least 2L of water every day helps to keep your fibrous cords below the skin strong and supple which, in turn, helps to keep your skin smooth.

Eating a healthy and balanced diet helps to keep your fat levels down and reduces inflammation within the body. Paired with drinking lots of water, this all helps to keep your connective fibres strong under your skin.
